The TEAM#UP Project Continues at a Good Pace in Spain!

12 Feb 2025

TEAM#UP aims to develop knowledge, tools, and training in ecological restoration for the education sector, particularly in vocational training.

IES El Palmeral closed 2024 with progress in all TEAM#UP project actions. The center has organised demonstration site visits to learn about ecosystem restoration and rewilding initiatives.

Various sites were visited, including regenerative agriculture farms and organic agroecosystem management. Additionally, attendees  observed actions from European projects focused on river restoration and connectivity, such as LIFE Segura Riverlink, as well as coastal and dune system management through restoration actions within the LIFE Salinas project.

Other activities included training through a workshop on tracks and traces for fauna monitoring in the Font Roja Natural Park and a visit to a demonstration area for forest restoration in a mountain range near the school.

The educational center itself has also been involved in TEAM#UP activities, with the first steps taken toward developing the school's demonstration area for rewilding. The initial rewilding modules have already been designed, and work has begun on constructing and installing various shelters for auxiliary fauna.

To achieve this, during the Vocational Training Technical Workshops held at IES El Palmeral from January 27th to 29th, 2025, including constructing nest boxes, fauna shelters, and pollinator blocks, followed by their strategic placement and installation within school grounds. This workshop was carried out with the support of a team from the Ulula Association, involving students from the center. This initiative is part of the TEAM#UP project, and aims to enhance biodiversity and rewild the school's spaces.

The students of IES El Palmeral have also played a central role throughout. During the first months of the academic year, various cooperative education sessions have been conducted within the Ecological Restoration course, led by experts from the University of Alicante, Agresta and Biocyma, as well as the naturalist association ANSE. Some of these sessions, such as combating desertification or using fauna as a rewilding agent, introduce students to practical cases and new didactic approaches to ecological restoration.

DOEACTUA EVENT (IDEATHON)

The TEAM#UP students from IES El Palmeral participated in the 11th edition of DOEACTUA, an initiative by the University of Alicante aimed at fostering an entrepreneurial spirit among students and promoting the creation of businesses by turning innovative and entrepreneurial business ideas into reality.

The event took place from January 29th to February 1st, 2025, where student Juan Miguel Espín was selected as a finalist, with the AgrosincronIA project, winning four awards related to entrepreneurship and business creation to help materialize his business idea.

The AgrosincronIA business project aims to develop a specialised platform for designing crop associations tailored to local ecosystems, providing technical advice and training, facilitating knowledge exchange among platform users, and commercialising the seeds required to establish these crop associations.
